Abstract
|

|
Purpose : to understand potential problems of the old age by analyzing awareness in old age preventive measures and preparation, and preference in old age welfare facilities of youth and middle aged who would belong to the old age group in the future, and provide fundamental information to find effective policy and facilities complementary plan for improvement of healthy life quality and settlement of social problems. The subjects of this study was 692 who were citizens in Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province. Data were collected from April 1 to June 30, 2006.
Results : 1) Regarding the economical preparation plan for their old life, 46% of the respondents said that they will buy an old age insurance, ranked the highest, and next is to open a fixed deposit account with 20.1%. 2) In the most important expected issue in their old age, the higher age group recognized ’health issue’. 3) In the form of living together in their old age, 31.4% of respondents said they will live as couple, ranked the highest, 22.4% said they will not live with their children, 19.2%. 4) Regarding the preventative measures for maintain healthy life, 43.6% of respondents said they will exercise, ranked the highest with 26.4%. 5) Regarding the recognition level of old age housing, medical treatment, leisure and home-based welfare facilities gets higher as they have higher level of education and monthly income. 6) In the preference of old age welfare facilities, the female preferred the old age welfare facilities than male and the higher monthly average income group preferred the old age housing and leisure welfare facilities.
Conclusion : For the issue of old age welfare, preparation of long-term care plan for an aging and super aging society, revision of related laws and fundamental construction (i.e. infrastructure) must be preceded. After that, the comprehensive approach at a fundamental base is required for expansion of old age welfare facilities, old age employment, scope of applying old age care insurance system, improvement of medical system, construction of old age welfare facilities and its effective management. The political concern to draw active participation towards the old age welfare facilities business is required with the government preparing financial resources together with people and ensuring an enterprising characteristic through preference of the old age welfare facilities and thorough demand forecast. For the development and management of the old age welfare facilities, access to family and society, social participation and interchange must be considered to select the locations. Also, the possibility of not only simple accommodation or isolation but also creative leisure time and social interchange must be considered.
